Hello once again, and as we welcome in a new year so we welcome a new range of colours and styles that will define the look of 2016. Watch out for future blogs where I'll keep you updated on the emerging trends, many of which will feature at industry trade shows the Barretts team attends.
Trade shows are essential for a store like Barretts of Woodbridge. It's our chance to spot something new, beautiful and hopefully exclusive. One of my previous blogs was about 'keeping it fresh', and the trade show is where the hard work begins to ensure our customers continue to enjoy visiting the store and finding something lovely for their home. They are the best place to see what's going to be 'hot' this year, and so far we've been to Top Draw/Home in Olympia, January Furniture Show in NEC, and next up it's the 'big one' - the Spring Show also at the NEC in February.
So, for 2016 there is one new colour, and one still going strong and sure to be prominent in 2016. Our new colour is... aqua, or more specifically, 'Limpet Shell'.
Limpet Shell is the name given by the world authority on colour, US-based Pantone Color Institute™. Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director at the company describes Limpet Shell as:
"A shade of aqua that leans toward the green family, PANTONE 13-4810 Limpet Shell is clear, clean and defined. Suggestive of clarity and freshness, its crisp and modern influences evoke a deliberate, mindful tranquility."
Now, in case you're thinking, "I've never seen a limpet shell that colour before", then the photo above of some actual limpet shells vividly shows they really are that gorgeous colour!
This colour being big in 2016 is good news for us here in coastal Suffolk. It's reminiscent of seaside holidays and all things nautical, which of course we love. I first spotted 'Limpet Shell' back in December on a visit to our good friends at Junction 18. They had a whole section of lovely products this cheerful colour, which will feature in store very soon. Some examples below:

The second colour, you may be surprised to hear, is copper. Copper accents in home design really got going in 2015 and it continues to grow in popularity. This traditional finish is used in several ways to create a warm and intimate feel. Whether in its dark and oxidised form for that vintage look, or in a bright and shiny finish to accent a contemporary home interior with a rich glow. Both work well with neutral hues, making copper a relatively straightforward colour to introduce and integrate to existing furnishings.
Copper has been very successful in lamps and mirrors in particular, and we were thrilled so see the new range of copper lamps from our Edison Bulb supplier Amber Bright Creations at the recent Top Drawer/Home show.

I think these lamps look fantastic, and although they feature the popular Edison Bulbs, I think they will look great even with ordinary light bulbs.
Below are another couple of examples of copper lamps and mirrors from Danalight and Gallery.
We have only one Danalight Copper 5 Tier Lounge Lamp left in the store, shown above left, which is 10% off in our Winter Sale (was £299, now £269). Once again, expect to see more copper in the store in 2016.
Watch out for more style trends updates in my weekly blog, and I'll see you next week.
