A local Barretts customer describes her excellent experience of working with Barretts.

Q: What were you looking for initially?

We have been loyal customers of Barretts for years, and we always enjoy a trip to Woodbridge to pop into the shop to gain inspiration and advice. In this particular case we were looking for some bright and contemporary fabric to replace the curtains and matching pelmet in our daughter’s bedroom. Although the existing window treatments had served us well, it was time for a refresh, and we fancied something completely different.

Q: What made you choose Barretts?

We have worked with Barretts on numerous home interior projects and have always received excellent service. The staff are extremely knowledgeable and have been so helpful to us over the years. Plus the Barretts collection of fabric books is second to none, ranging from very affordable to top luxury brands. Does anywhere else locally have as many fabrics to choose from?

Q) How did we help in fulfilling your requirements?

We knew we wanted a brightly coloured statement fabric to infuse some warmth and colour into the room. In the end we decided on a William Morris fabric from the new ‘Bedford Park’Collection – ‘Hyacinth’ in Cosmic Pink. It was the perfect choice featuring a blend of crimson reds and a bright cosmic pink which looks sensational.

We had a sequin-style trim on the last pelmet which looked lovely, however, this time around we chose a rich orange tassle trim to bring out the colours of the fabric which looks stunning!

We have also recently completed a refresh project in the Lounge. The first step was to replace the carpet, which was a bit of a challenge in terms of matching it to a fabric we liked due to its unusual colourway and pattern. But thankfully help was at hand, with some great advice from the Softs team a perfect match was found!

We opted for a glorious green shade for the walls and wanted a curtain fabric to complement the lush green colour of the walls and to enhance the white coving trim, without overpowering the room or closing it in.

We’re absolutely delighted with both sets of curtains

We spent a fair bit of time in the shop pouring over an array of fabric design books. However, because we were able to use the free customer car park at the back of the shop, we could relax and take our time choosing fabrics without having to worry about the time on the parking meter.

We opted for a Prestigious Textiles brand which offers a beautiful range of fabric collections. We settled on a fabric from the ‘Malibu’ Collection, called Santa Maria which has a decidedly Tropical theme. We didn’t want floral necessarily, yet this had a fresh, botanical theme.

We felt this fabric had a representation of all the colours involved in our room setting and would be successful in tying the palette of colours together nicely.

We went for a triple pinch pleat heading style, we were advised the fixed style of the pleats are sewn to be evenly spaced allowing for a very neat uniform gather and controlled fall. Although this style of pleating does use slightly more fabric, it produces a beautiful full drape which we were looking for.

Juliana and the Softs Department were extremely helpful ensuring our requirements were met. The quote was altered to accurately reflect the changes that were made to our order.

Q) Please note any services we provided and the result.

The measuring, making and fitting services were excellent. The fitting service really does make the difference, and I really encourage customers to pay for this. The curtains are gorgeous and are well made. We’re absolutely delighted with both sets of curtains and I absolutely love the bedroom curtains with the pelmet and bobble fringe, Barretts didn’t disappoint.
