We would like to introduce Jack, our Rug Manager who is an integral member of the Barretts team!
Jack has been with the company for over three years and is one of our ‘go-to’ members of staff, with a natural flair for colour and design. So much so, we asked Jack to invite us into his home to find out what inspires his interior design style of his own home, away from the day-to-day business at Barretts of Woodbridge.
Jack has shared with us that much of his inspiration comes from the colours found in nature, which includes a Mediterranean-inspired palette of colours and fabrics. From fresh, delicate white, which evokes a feeling of cool refreshing cotton, to deep azure blues and the contrast of warm terracotta. There’s even the exotic influence of Japanese Tea Gardens – all every en trend at the moment. Jack quoted: “When I buy new items for my home, I keep these things in mind when choosing colours and designs”.
“It’s been a long journey deciding which colour palettes work well.”
“I began with a Monochromatic colour scheme, the darker elements seemed to work very well initially, especially in the evening with good accent lighting. However since switching to lighter, more natural colours, this allowed the room to look equally as good at any time of the day, and during any season.”
“The modern interpretations of green and blue hues are refreshing as well as being great colours to enhance a range of neutral background tones; for example, they contrast beautifully with my flooring and the plain, neutral colour on my walls, inspired by Japanese Bamboo.”
“Blue hues are always a safe bet – perfect during the summer months, reminiscent of the sea and summer holidays! I tend to favour accents of Green as it is a positive, restorative colour which links us to the great outdoors.”
What are the key pieces you have purchased from Barretts which linked your colour palette and design together?
“Alston’s, Savannah 2-seater Sofa was chosen for its contemporary, streamlined design, featuring the popular deep-button back which makes it extremely relaxing after a hard day at the store. I knew this had to be a muted colour which led me to the mid-grey weave fabric, as it forms the perfect backdrop for a range of different coloured scatter cushions and throws which can be interchanged to reflect the seasons.”
“Green is also a colour that ties back nicely to the oak flooring which warms up the colour. The leaf prints on the wall are my favourite pieces of art today, with clean simple lines and the fresh green tones add vibrancy to the room.”
“Moving into the bedroom, it features my newly-purchased Hypnos mattress taking pride-of-place. I chose my mattress, primarily for its exceptional comfort and quality. In the process of choosing a new mattress, as we tend to find with our customers, it is important to take the time to decide on which mattress works best for you. “Thankfully, I was able to take my time trying the various tensions and comfort levels from all the different models on display in our showroom, which we invite our customers to do when shopping for a new bed.”
“For a simple and elegant alternative to a bedside table with 3- drawers, I chose a couple of Tenby side tables for the bedside lamps to purposely avoid the accumulation of unnecessary clutter.”
You have purchased numerous items from Barretts over other retailers, even before you were employed here, you could have shopped elsewhere – what do you personally value about shopping at Barretts?
“Actually. I have been a huge fan of Barretts for years and can be quite impartial about answering this one!”

“The fact Barretts has its own delivery team means the level of service from placing your order to the point of delivery is seamless, which is important with larger scale purchases. This is underpinned by the team carrying out a free pre-purchase access inspection upon request, to ensure your lovely new bed or sofa will actually fit into your room.”
Which is your favourite room and why?
“Since purchasing the new Hypnos mattress my favourite room is the bedroom. My quality of sleep has improved one hundred percent, and the sleep experience is more enhanced by the beautiful bedding recently purchased at Barretts – there is nothing more important than the investment of a restful night’s sleep!”
“No doubt my next project awaits, however I plan to take time across the summer to kick back and enjoy my beautiful home.”
